feature art friday | almost real

i did a post a couple years ago about an artist name alyssa monk. i thought she was a photographer but boy was i wrong! along with the rest of the artists below, she is a painter. however, her work, as well as joel penkman's and christopher stott's is so realistic you would assume they were photographs at first.

i'll be completely honest when i say that i'm not usually a fan of true to life paintings. i'm a die hard abstractionist with a penchant for artists that never attempt to capture our world as it visually is. however, ever since i was introduced to the work of artist richard estes in university, i've had a major thing for hyper realism and obscure still lifes.

see if any of the works below trick you, despite the fact that i've already spoiled the surprise.
